Products
Isis is supported on any Intel
based hardware running Windows 2000 or Windows XP. The Isis
tool can monitor applications running on other hardware platforms
and operating systems, but the console will only run on these
operating systems.
The Isis console has been designed
to run over Windows Terminal Services and Citrix connections.
However, it should be noted that the Isis console is not a
multi-user application and as such only one copy of the console
should be running on the Isis server at any one time. Isis
will check to ensure that only one copy of the software is
running at any one time and will warn the user if a second
copy of the Isis console is started. For more information
on this topic, please see the documentation on Running
Isis Under Windows Terminal Services.
Isis can monitor any release of BEA WebLogic from version
5.1 to 8.x apart from version 6.0, which did not support SNMP.
Since all Isis v2 WebLogic monitoring is performed via SNMP
it is important that the machine running the Isis console
has network access to the machines running WebLogic and that
SNMP is allowed through the firewalls to these machines.
Isis v2.2 will support Tuxedo monitoring from versions 6.4
to 8.x.
Isis can monitor any database that can support a ODBC connection
from the Isis console machine.
Isis v2 contains a significant number of enhancements over
the v1 product. Overall the focus of the v2 release has been
to allow Isis to perform realtime monitoring of systems, as
well as the historical monitoring that Isis has previously
been capable of. Full details on the new
enhancements in this release are covered elsewhere in
the documentation, but in summary the enhancements include;
- New user interface
- Support for WebLogic 8.x
- HTML based health check reporting
- Rules engine for creating and managing application alerts
- Integration with 3rd Party management tools such as HP OpenView
& NetIQ
- The ability to run Isis as a Windows Service
- The ability to automatically generate reports
- Bug fixes & general enhancements
There are several known issues with this release of Isis that
will be resolved in later releases of the product.
- WebLogic sources are not bound to a particular WebLogic
instance, hence selecting the server to report on in the report
creation dialog will not have any effect.
- Certain reports can only handle a limited number of sources
or reporting intervals. If you attempt to generate a report
which is outside of these reporting limits, then Isis will
prevent you from doing so.
